This is a commonly used enrichment solution used in the culture of marine phytoplankton.
Directions: Simply add 1 ml to 1 L (2 ml to a 2 L pop bottle) of fresh saltwater at ~1.019 s.g., add your starter culture and light ~16 hours per day. A 8oz bottle is enough for approximately 240 liters at f/2 concentration!
Nannochloropsis is a single celled algae with a diameter of 2-4 microns. It is used in the aquaculture industry for cultivation of copepods, rotifers, artemia, and other zooplankton. It is also used in reef aquariums for feeding SPS corals, clams, sponges, feather dusters and other filter feeders that require small phytoplankton. It can be used to increase the concentration of zooplankton in marine tanks while increasing the fatty acid (EPA & DHA) content of the zooplankton.
All of our phytoplankton undergoes a concentration process. This helps to remove excess nutrients used to grow the phyto as well as increasing the amount of phyto in each bottle.
I've used this protein skimmer for several years on a 60 gallon and more recently a 30 gallon tank. Still works great!
